As a member of the 1996 US Women’s Gymnastics Olympic team, Kerri Strug is most remembered for being carried off the podium after landing her vault on a badly injured foot by longtime coach Bela Karolyi.
Almost 20 years later, things are a lot different for Kerri, now 37 years old. She is a program manager for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and a mother of two young children; 3-year-old Tyler and 1-year-old Alayna.
Kerri told SI.com, “Gymnastics really brought me out of my shell and completely changed the trajectory of my life. Now the work I do is making a difference across the nation, making sure that youths who don’t have the opportunities I was given are taken care of and given opportunities to be the best they possibly can be.”
